Our Story
Mission
Marble House Project (MHP) is a multi-disciplinary residency on an historic property in the Green Mountains and a forum for art and ecology. We bring together artists, thinkers, and practitioners from diverse fields to live and create in an atmosphere of openness and ecological attention. Through our public programming, we find connections and build community. We share our belief in the important role art plays in society: it shapes values, imagines futures, reveals the unseen and enriches lives. Everything we do is rooted in generosity– a key ecological principle.
Founded on the belief that art flourishes in community
In 2014, Danielle Epstein and Dina Schapiro transformed a historic 1815 marble mansion and its surrounding farmland in Dorset, Vermont into a living laboratory for creativity. What began as a shared vision between two friends became Marble House Project — a place where artists from every discipline come together to make work, share ideas, and engage with the land.
Since its founding, Marble House Project has hosted over 500 artists from the United States and abroad. Each season, approximately 50 artists live communally in the mansion, share meals grown on the organic farm, and produce new work in studios nestled in the Green Mountains.

A Short Film About Marble House Project
We met Polar Productions and Kevin Chap in 2019. They were shooting the beginning of their documentary series Wild Foods airing on PBS in 2026 which included a couple of our culinary artists. We were so impressed with their work that we asked them to help us make a short film of who we are as an organization. This video was shot in October, 2019 during the final residency before the Pandemic. Much of what we do and say remains true to today.
