The 6th and 7th graders at Long Trail collaborated with MHP Art Therapist in Residence, Jessie Novik, in creating a visual map inspired by Keith Haring and a blog they have been working on that featured all the landmarks and unique activities that Vermont has to offer. The task was: how to integrate all of the figures (characteristic of their own personalities of course) and symbols of Vermont culture into one cohesive and eye catching design. Some other concepts that were discussed and can be seen within the mural are: narrative, evolution, healthy living, outdoor activity, containment (the splatter), and diversity. This project is the first in a series of community projects that MHP hopes to engage in with the community. The collaboration will eventually be a series of art farming and community engagement. Encouraging young artists to explore social issues through art while being active in the community. Stay tuned there will be more to come.
